AI home staging gives fantastic results — most of the time. But sometimes it goes wrong: a sofa at an impossible scale, a table that disappeared along the way, or an image that's blocked entirely. Here are the six most common problems, why they happen and the concrete fix for each.
1. The furniture ends up at the wrong scale
Cause: the AI guesses the room's size from the perspective, and small rooms without reference points fool it. Fix: enter the room's dimensions (length × width) when you stage — then furniture is chosen at the right size. Also shoot from the doorway so the floor is visible.
2. A piece you wanted to keep disappeared
Cause: when the AI repaints an area it sometimes reads nearby objects as part of what should go. Fix: write explicitly what should stay — "remove the sofa, but keep the table in front exactly as it is". Naming what to preserve is the strongest trick.
3. The image is blocked by the safety filter
Cause: almost always faces in the shot — not just people, but also film posters, framed photos and artwork with people. Fix: crop them out or reshoot without them. No staging is used up when an image is blocked.
4. The result doesn't follow the instruction
Cause: too vague or too long an instruction. Fix: be concrete and short — "Scandinavian style, beige sofa, an oak coffee table" beats a whole essay. Set the AI freedom to "My instructions only" if you want exact control.
5. The style feels wrong for the room
Cause: not every style carries in every room and light. Fix: generate several versions — it costs one staging per attempt but you compare side by side. Try two styles before you decide.
6. A specific piece doesn't come out like the product image
Cause: the AI recreates from the reference image, and messy product images give messy results. Fix: choose a reference image where the piece is clearly visible, straight on and without a distracting background.
The golden rule: iterate
AI staging isn't one shot — it's a conversation. The first version is a draft; adjust the instruction and run it again. Most "errors" vanish on the second attempt once the instruction is sharpened.
