Stage the bedroom for a viewing: how to create the hotel feel

The bedroom should sell calm. How to stage it for the viewing and listing — bed, textiles, symmetry — and how to do it digitally without moving a single piece.

After the living room, the bedroom is the listing's most important space. Buyers aren't looking for a bed — they're looking for calm. That's why staged bedrooms always borrow from hotels: clean, symmetrical and soft. Here's how to get your bedroom there, physically or digitally.

An empty bedroom staged digitally: bed at the centre, symmetrical bedside tables, soft textiles.

The bed is the heart of the room

A made bed with smooth, light bedding and a couple of extra cushions does more for the photo than any other piece in the home. Unmade? A digital tidy-up makes it for you.

Symmetry creates calm

Two bedside tables, two lamps. The brain reads symmetry as order, and order as calm. It's the cheapest hotel trick there is.

Textiles soften the room

A bedspread, a throw and curtains take away the bareness. Keep the colours muted — white, beige, light grey — so the room feels bigger and brighter.

Clear floors and surfaces

Clothes piles, boxes and cables shrink the room. In the photo the floor should show — floor space is what the buyer is paying for.

Do it in a minute

Upload a photo of the bedroom — empty, furnished or messy — and describe what you want: "make the bed and add a throw", or "furnish it like a bright hotel room". Review, download, done.
