The kitchen is one of the rooms buyers value most — and the trickiest to stage. Carcasses, doors and appliances stay where they are. But what you can actually influence in the photo makes a surprisingly big difference: the surfaces, the details and the sense of order.
Rule one: empty countertops
Countertops are the kitchen's floor space — they're what the buyer is paying for. Dish racks, cables, bottles and appliances shrink the kitchen in the photo. Clear everything except two or three deliberate details: a wooden chopping board, a bowl of fruit, something green.
The details that make a kitchen feel alive
- A bowl of lemons or apples — a splash of colour that always works
- A coffee maker or espresso machine can stay: it speaks of everyday luxury
- A pot of basil or a small bouquet by the window
- Fresh, smooth tea towels in a neutral colour over the oven handle
The digital lift
Didn't get time to clear up before the shoot? A digital tidy-up removes clutter from the counters afterwards — without touching the kitchen's fixed parts. Doors, worktops and appliances are shown exactly as they are; honesty always applies to what's fixed. And if the buyer is thinking about a new kitchen, that's a renovation sum — your photos should sell the kitchen that's there.
