Virtual staging and 3D rendering get mixed up constantly — both produce images of rooms that don't look that way in reality. But they're different tools for different jobs, with a price gap of several thousand percent.
The core difference
A 3D render is built from drawings: an artist models the room from scratch and can show what doesn't exist — the unbuilt house, the wall to be moved. Virtual staging starts from a photo of a real room and changes only the furnishing; the architecture is photographic reality.
Price and turnaround
- 3D rendering: often €200–1,000 per image, days-to-weeks turnaround, costly revisions
- AI virtual staging: cents per image, about a minute, and a new version costs one more staging
- Rule of thumb: rendering is a project, virtual staging is a tool
When to use which
- Render: the property doesn't exist yet, the layout will change, or you need exteriors
